🌬️Impermanence
I think Buddhism has incredible principles in life, many of them would relates to various new age teachings that we have. Of course, if I were to stretch this further - all of the great wisdom of the earth has been stated by various great sages. Here, we’re just rehashing what we heard of into the present world’s context.
One of the principle here relates to an awareness of “impermanence”.
The practices in Buddhism includes contemplating on our death - that we may just die tomorrow out of accident.
I take time to read eulogies often, because they remind me of what would matter the most when we die.
Some says it’s morbid, but I argue that in knowing that life is short and precious, we would take things less for granted. We would be present more in life. We would know what’s important.
When we remember impermanence when we’re doing well, it keeps our pride in check.
“I’ve worked hard for my business, and there are enough causes for me to be successful now. Yet, there are many things that can affect how well we’re doing - accident, death, illness. Hence, while I have them, let me be grateful”.
A flipside of it, is to also know the difficulties are temporary. Briefly stated, “this too, shall pass”. And that gives more space to the difficulties we are facing.
Hence, impermanence.
