☘️Boddhicitta Brings Greatest Benefit

If I Taught Buddhism to My Past Self › Boddhicitta Brings Greatest Benefit

Karma Compounds

A business that scales up to serve a larger audience or solve greater problems generates higher revenue.

Similarly, great deeds, when scaled up, yield greater benefits.

The Greatest Benefit

The greatest benefit one can attain is enlightenment — a state where the mind is stabilized in perpetual bliss and love, free from all forms of suffering.

This is of immense benefit because most other benefits last only within a single lifetime.

For instance, I may be a doctor who performs many charitable services in this life, but I’m only helping people recover from illnesses in this one existence.

Enlightenment, however, brings benefit beyond this lifetime — for it stabilizes our consciousness permanently in that liberated state.

When we give rise to Bodhicitta, we act to free all sentient beings from suffering.

This compounds the two greatest karmic causes:

  • Amount: Done for all sentient beings.
  • Duration: Freedom from suffering permanently, across all lifetimes.

Therefore, the return of such actions is the greatest we can possibly receive.

Eventually, Give Without Expecting Return

Of course, true Bodhicitta arises from pure compassion — it gives without expecting anything in return.

When we still focus on ourselves, we tend to act in ways that limit the benefit to others rather than giving fully. As our consciousness grows, we eventually reach a point where we can give without any concern for return.

After all, we are resting in love and compassion. When we see everything as interconnected and love, it becomes natural to act for the benefit of others.

For Now, Contemplate the Benefits of Bodhicitta

Yet, most of us are still human — with desires, traumas, unmet needs, and ego.

So by beginning our journey on the path of Bodhicitta through reflecting on its benefits, we cultivate motivation to walk this path.

As our merit grows, we will comprehend more Dharma, live better lives, and serve the world more effectively.
